Scientific Name: Swietenia macrophylla

Color can vary a fair amount in Honduran Mahogany in a range of browns with some slight red tones.

Honduran Mahogany is very easy to work and turns well, however tearout or chipping may occur with figured woods. Sands easily, glues well and takes finish well.

This wood species is CITES Appendix II restricted.

Many woods go by the name Mahogany, however Honduran Mahogany, Swietenia macrophylla, is what most consider to be the true species when referring to “Mahogany.” African Mahogany and Sapele are often used as substitutes due to lower cost and no current restrictions.
